Lindee Goodall is an internationally recognized instructor, author, award-winning designer/digitizer, founder and former co-owner (with husband Bill), and President of Cactus Punch, Inc. Leveraging her experience in art, design, computer programming and crafting, Lindee founded Cactus Punch in 1995 to create innovative designs for all embroiderers, and continues to extend the boundaries of the machine embroidery craft. At its peak, Cactus Punch employed 22 employees including 6 digitizers, 3 artists, and 2 machine operators. The company was sold in December 2004 to VSM, who then closed the Tucson operation in August, 2006.
Cactus Punch was the first company to design exclusively for the home market using professional quality software, first to produce multi-format diskettes, first to produce an installer-based, multi-format CD, and first to create a "designer" series-artwork supplied by educators and designers, digitized by Cactus Punch, and sold to the consumer as a non-licensed product permitting resale of sewn products. The company also provided contract digitizing services for companies such as Viking, Pfaff, Singer, and Martha Pullen.
Lindee was awarded First Place in Creative Use of Stock Designs for a fabulous jacket at the 2002 Stitch Off from Stitches Magazine, as well as the overall Creativity Award at the same competition. At the 1997 METS conference, Cactus Punch won first place for best original digitized design for an heirloom cutwork angel, created and digitized by Lindee, and now available as a design collection, Heirloom Cutwork Angel (ANG01). In 1997, Impressions Magazine named Lindee a "Digitizer of Distinction," and in March, 1996, the Embroidery Trade Association named Cactus Punch "Embroiderer of the Month."
Additionally, her designs have been featured in numerous embroidery industry trade and consumer magazines. Her work was also prominently displayed in the SofTeam booth as excellent examples of what can be accomplished with their software (Punto).
She also encouraged her staff to participate in competitions and Cactus Punch digitizers have also won first place ribbons in the Stitch Off and other trade magazine competitions. A second Cactus Punch digitizer was also later named a Digitizer of Distinction. What's even more notable is the number of awards Cactus Punch customers have won with the designs.
A prolific writer, Lindee has published two books and numerous articles in sewing and embroidery magazines, including Designs in Machine Embroidery, EMB, Profitable Embroiderer, Sew Beautiful, Sew News, Stitches, and Threads. She has also contributed articles to FreeEmbroidery.com. She has made guest appearances on America Sews with Sue Hausmann, Martha's Sewing Room with Martha Pullen, America Quilts Creatively with Karen Good, and Shar Jorgenson's Quilting from the Heartland. Lindee also wrote the module Think Like a Digitizer for the digitize-wise? training series. She currently writes for EchidnaClub.com and is an educator for the Australian College of Computer Embroidery.
Lindee has made numerous appearances at sewing shows and conventions and very much enjoys the stimulation and interaction that teaching provides. In 2003, Lindee launched an embroidery and digitizing school at Cactus Punch, to encourage increased professionalism and participation in the embroidery art. She also published an electronic newsletter called Letter from Lindee, filled with hints, tips, and news, to keep in contact with embroidery enthusiasts around the world.
Before embroidery monopolized her life, Lindee raced catamarans, is a PADI certified Dive Master and Master Scuba Diver, and she still enjoys sport diving in what remains of her spare time. She also enjoys web and database development. She resides in Tucson with her husband Bill and her two cats, Cisco and Peanut. Lindee's favorite embroidery techniques include appliqué, 3-D embroidery, machine smocking, and free-standing lace.
After two years away from the industry, Lindee is ready to start a new dimension!
